Urban Natural Areas - Description and Summary

In 2005, the city commissioned a report on 185 “Urban Natural Areas” (UNAs) in Ottawa to guide future development by classifying areas as low, moderate or high ecological value. The report can be found here. Figure 3 identifies ALL 185 UNAs.

Three of these UNAs are significantly impacted by changes proposed the 2025 Zoning By-law Review: UNA #140 (Leopold, part of the “Riverwalk section”) and UNA #143 (Part of the Airport Pathway ‘woodlot’).
and UNA #144 (McCarthy Woods and Meadows).

Detailed Assessment of the Pertinent Urban Natural Areas

Although the report was published in 2005, the majority of
the assessment that took place was actually from an NCC
report from 1977 (almost 50 years ago).
