Cloth diaper trial

OSEAN wants to make it easier and more affordable for families in Ottawa to use cloth diapers. The kit contains everything you need to try cloth diapering for a period of 3-4 weeks.

Available kit sizes

• Newborn (up to 13 lbs)

• Baby (15-25 lbs)

• Toddler (25+ lbs)

Each kit includes 25-30 different diapers in a variety of styles and brands, a wet bag, and cloth wipes.

Getting your kit

Kits must be picked up and dropped off from a house in the Mooney’s Bay area. We can arrange a time when you can chat at pick up to answer any questions in person, or leave the kit out on the porch as a contactless option.

Returning your kit

Please wash all used materials prior to returning them. The diapers will be sanitized by our volunteers.

Cost

At the end of the trial, we encourage participants to give a small donation (e.g. $25) to contribute towards the costs of running the program, if they are in a financial position to do so. The trial is not sponsored by any other organization so volunteers look after sanitizing diapers between trials, keeping up with wear and tear, and sourcing new components for kits. 

Diaper kit Dos and Don’ts

• DO use a detergent that does not include fabric softener. For example, Tide Original Powder. You can learn more about washing diapers here.

• Do NOT use dryer sheets or fabric softeners. These can affect the absorbency of the diapers.

• Do NOT use diaper creams with petroleum jelly. Examples of diaper-safe cream include Earth Mama Diaper Balm and Substance Nappy Ointment.
