Support the 2025 Lone Mitten Project

Every year, hundreds of lost and found bins across Ottawa are filled with individual mittens and gloves that don’t have a partner.  Meanwhile, vulnerable Ottawa residents badly need mittens.  To address this, OSEAN and Eco West Enders have launched The Lone Mitten Project.  Single mittens will be cleaned and matched up with other similar mittens, and then put into the hands of those in need of warmth.

We are targeting Lost and Found bins in schools, libraries, community centres, universities, and places where people tend to lose mittens. We have reached out to local school boards, the City of Ottawa, the National Capital Commission, and OC Transpo, and hope to have as many organizations as possible on board.

We invite you to bring your unmatched mittens to one of OSEAN’s upcoming events, including the Repair Café on February 22nd, or contact us for drop off locations.

Get involved

We’re looking fo volunteers! There are many ways to pitch in, ranging from mitten processing (washing, sorting, pairing, packaging - perfect for high school students in need of volutneer hours!), to more specific roles things like help with promotion, becoming a mitten collection point, volunteer coordination and driving.
