Pollinator patch giveaway 2024

Our Pollinator Patch giveaway is back! We’re again providing native plant seedlings so that local residents can supply the perfect food for bees, butterflies, other pollinators and birds.

Visit our Pollinator Patch webpage to learn more about the program, or click the link below to request a kit. The form will be available until Tuesday May 22.

Please note that you must be able to pick up your kit on May 23 or 25. As quantities are limited, we will prioritize kits for community and public gardens and for residences in Ottawa South.

About our kits

🌱 Size: Medium (14-18 plants) and large (21-27 plants) kits are available

⛅Garden locations: We have kits for sunny and partial shade/shady gardens.

👨‍🌾 We have 50-plug trays available for people planting community pollinator gardens. Your garden must be accessible to the public and located in Ottawa South.

Things to consider

💧 You must be able to care for (water) your plants this spring and summer. Like other young plants, these pollinator plants will need to be watered for at least the first year while they put down roots. Our volunteers have spent many hours preparing them for planting, and we want to see them thrive.

❓ Supplies are limited so we cannot guarantee that you will receive a kit. Priority will be given to residents of / gardens in Alta Vista, River, Gloucester-Southgate or Capital Wards.  We would appreciate return of the pots and trays after you plant, as we will clean and reuse them.  The 50-plug community garden trays must be returned to OSEAN.

🦋 You have the option of including your garden (approximate location only) in the Ottawa South Butterflyway that we have registered on the David Suzuki Foundation website.

Distribution

The main distribution event for Pollinator Patch plants kits will happen on Thursday,  May 23 from 4 to 7 pm near Mooney's Bay. There will be an opportunity at this event to ask questions about pollinator gardens. If this time does not work for you, there will be an option to pick up kits at that same location near Mooney's Bay or in Riverview Park at the north end of Alta Vista on Saturday May 25 from 9am  to 11am.   Any kit not picked up will be passed to someone else.  We will have some opportunities at a later time to pick up individual plants too so stay tuned.

Kit availability

We expect that interest will be high for these kits. If you do not hear from us before the event, it is still possible that you may receive an email later if there are kits left over.  Please add our e-mail address (osean.info@gmail.com) to your contacts to ensure that our reply will not be sent to your SPAM folder.
